Chapter 2-- Applied Communication

Applied communication is putting the theories about communication into action. It is commonly used in social justice and social goods. The most common way to put some theories into practice or action is by engaging with different groups in different settings. For example, in a small group, school, a professional setting, or with family. Its goal is to make a difference.

I am a dancer, and I receive a lot of criticism and corrections. When I receive this, the application is what I do with the information I just received. If I make a correction, it makes a difference in my dancing, where I am doing something right, or making something look better. It also tells my dance teacher that I am listening to what she has to say, which also shows her respect and that I want to be a better dancer. This can also happen in a school setting, where I get feedback from an assignment or a paper, and use that feedback on my next one to make it even better.
