Applied Communication Blog 1

Applied communication is the study of an issue in the social sphere with the purpose of finding a way to solve that issue. It was originally created as a way to make communication studies more applicable to real life. In less words, applied communication is the aspect of communication that changes thought to action. In the book, "Communication Ethics Literacy: Dialogue and Difference," authors, Ronald C. Arnett, , Janie Fritz, , and Leeanne M. Bell, describe applied communication as communication with the goal of making a difference.

In my own life, applied communication often looks like getting feedback on a piece of my writing and using my own judgment to decide which pieces of feedback are useful to me, and which are not, then making the relevant changes.

  1. Hi Iris,

I think that the concept of applied communication is a very important one. While all of communication studies are important in their own way, applied communications made the study more applicable and useful outside of the academic world. This study makes it clear to everyone, academically inclined and otherwise, that communication is an essential part of our everyday lives. I also view feedback as an important part of my writing process, and deciding which feedback is beneficial and which is not is an imperative part of that.

  2. Hey Iris!

I think it's cool you wrote of Applied Communication, I think it is very interesting. The idea of using a specific form of communication to find a solution for a specific problem, originally brought about by communication, is very fascinating and appealing to me. I would love to try and find more real life examples of this happening.
