Whys & Hows

I found the preface really interesting especially talking about needing to be willing to discuss differences and really learn about the why of people and how they communicate before you can really make progress in a conversation. "Communication ethics literacy with a dialogic tendency/impulse begins with a pragmatic “why” to learn about differing “hows,” communication ethics, or goods in action." (preface pg 7) I think this is a very important passage when looking at communications especially when looking at ethics. I have had many conversation with family members that dominate a conversation with trying to impose their ideas or be aggressive in the conversation. I try my best to be inviting and discuss the whys in the hope we can move towards a more understanding of each other and hopefully a more open mindset.

More so then being inviting is actively listening and participating in the classroom. I never though of how important coming to class each day in terms of being a participant in the semester long growth and conversation with my peers. Through discussion and class time topics will be brought up and I am sure we will all think of them differently but it will all lead us to building out our foundation on these topics together to lead to more and more fruitful discussions.

Even more so moving on to post modernity and the concept of a common center. Especially with the books example of a bookstore that has many competing views of people who are there it can be a place of commonality that other can learn from each other and their difference. Communicating in these spaces and especially I feel colleges can we really learn from each other the difference in self, views, and experience to come to a more in-depth acceptance and understanding of each other from learning of others.
