World Traveling and Critical Literacy

Nelson essay was very interesting, especially the concept of world traveling was a very interesting term to read through that can be used to apply concepts. I found the concept of play in schooling and teaching in general to be very beneficial for the development of critical literacy as well. Especially looking at how games and play have referenced and agreed-upon a rules that can be seen from childhood to adulthood.

When Nelsen referenced Latina using world travel to both critical analyze and engage with concepts by position herself in a person of privilege and as target of oppression and discrimination. The concept of world traveling made me think of essential
standing in someone else's shoes to see their perspective on concepts. This I feel can be used explore the reason they think they way they do through their upbringing and constant exposure to media that can persuade them in one way or another without having critical literacy. I find this tool a very important and extremely needed skill in the world we live in.

These tools can also be used to explore and help students engage and understand their own confusing with concepts and help question things that have become accepted to them due to an upbringing or constant exposure to said concepts. I know my thinking through of other's thoughts and opinions with a form of this creative playfulness has helped me identify faults in my own thinking, and help broaden my understand of the struggles others face. Like Nelson stated different ways of play and engaging with the world or the rules that construct the areas we play in can effect the learning outcome and give insight on the bigger socio-cultural contexts of our society.
