I found the article by Rebecca Hains to be a read that I think is often overlooked. She discussed ways to respond when a white person was just called out for being racist. I think she offered a helpful guide if something like this would happen to a white person. I see a connection from this week's readings and last week's readings; one was about white people who are racist and this week was a step in understanding where they were in the wrong.
Often times, I think that when a white person gets called out for being racist, they are just kinda left with that feeling and guilt. But I feel like no one is ever there to help them understand why what they said was wrong. This article demonstrated ways that someone could get help for understanding what they did. I feel like it's easy to call someone out for something, but then no offer any help or suggestions on how to move forward. Article's like Hain's are a piece that can help those understand.
Last week, I discussed an article that talked about white fragility and how white people have a hard time trying to talk about race. They feel uncomfortable discussing the topic and sometimes don't know what to say. One thing can lead to another, and something wrong could be said. That's where this article can be a guide to the next steps.
I wish that we could see more of article's like Hain's being published (or, maybe I just don't see them) so that we can use this as a learning tool for those who might need it. She offered a different light on discussing racism and painted it in a new picture.
