For this weeks reading, I found the reading by Zabalegi to be the most powerful. In the reading the Feminist Movement Group is calling action to the government to start making healthcare a priority at a time where it is desperately needed. I feel like what made the reading so impactful was the open letter that was in it that was written by the Movement. In the letter they were making a call for action to all the governments in their country to start taking accountability for their people and to create a healthcare system for them . The open letter seemed to have more of a political push in it so to me that seems like the Movement was taking this issue very seriously and they wanted to see change happen right away.
I think the open letter was a really amazing way to bring awareness to whatever issue might be going on because it adds personalization to it. You're able to speak about your experiences or others and make it personal so whoever is reading it can understand where you're coming from and have an open mind. A quote from the open letter which I really liked is when they said, "We are comittiing ourselves to coordination, to work. It is time to accept reality and act accordingly." I loved this quote because you can feel how strongly they care for their people to have this issue fixed and that's why the open letter is so powerful because you can truly say what you feel

ReplyDeleteI ended up writing about the same piece of writing for my blog post as well. I felt like the open letter was extremely powerful and you could pretty much feel the emotion from the writers. I like how in your first paragraph you brought up how the letter seemed to have a very political motive behind it. I think this was an essential part to what made this letter so powerful. To build off your thoughts a little more, I think this political push in Euskal Herria could set a precedent globally. In my post I mentioned how domestic violence has spiked globally due to the pandemic. I would argue that this type of political activism could lead other countries to have similar conversations about these types of violence.

ReplyDeleteI think the best way to express yourself and try and be convincing is by being human. When someone can see the human aspect of something they tend to be more forgiving and it is unfortunate because you're right, healthcare shouldn't even be a debate. When it comes to human health, we tend to take it for granted and I think it is important that we value everyones life and not just the people that are doing well in society. This was a powerful piece and communication ethics should always get into question when we involve the life of human beings.
